The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring proper operations, maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment while supporting the Aimbridge Hospitality goals of guest satisfaction, cost control, and profitability. He/she oversees and participates in the Preventative Maintenance program, ensuring that all rooms and public spaces meet Aimbridge Hospitality standards. Management-level associates are expected to work as much of each workday as necessary to complete their responsibilities;
for OEM associates, overtime applies and is calculated accordingly.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field; or a 2-year college degree with 3+ years of related experience; or a 4-year college degree with 2+ years of related experience.
- Supervisory experience required.
- Current certifications as required by federal, state, or local authorities for trade requirements (e.g., HVAC, pool operation, electrical), property-specific.
- Current certification and licensing to operate and repair hotel boilers and chillers, as required by law.
- Valid driver's license for the applicable state.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate and choose among alternative actions quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work well under stress and high-pressure situations.
- Maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
- Effective problem-solving skills, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and resolving issues.
- Ability to assimilate complex information from various sources and adapt as needed.
- Good listening skills for understanding and resolving concerns of coworkers and guests.
- Ability to work with and understand financial data and basic arithmetic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Approach all interactions with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with Aimbridge Hospitality standards.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including proper uniform and name tag.
- Comply with all Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations for safe and efficient operations.
- Meet certification requirements for the position, including Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR, and First Aid.
- Train and supervise hourly Engineering staff and coordinate scheduling.
- Review staff's worked hours for payroll and submit promptly.
- Focus on guest service scores and departmental contributions.
- Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline Engineering staff per standards.
- Conduct employee performance appraisals and follow hiring procedures.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and training sessions.
- Respond to employee emergencies and keep MSD sheets current.
- Establish ongoing training for departments such as Housekeeping, Front Desk, and Kitchen.
- Adhere to budget and re-forecasted expenses, ensuring necessary supplies are stocked.
- Coordinate inspections of fire safety systems to maintain safety standards.
- Manage energy expenses and promote conservation efforts.
- Participate in MOD coverage as scheduled.
- Implement and oversee the Preventative Maintenance program.
- Evaluate and inspect the work of staff, contractors, and outside labor.
- Handle guestroom maintenance requests promptly.
- Maintain operational manuals and warranty agreements for equipment.
- Follow up on alarms to determine causes, assess emergency status, and report findings.
- Ensure staff are attentive, friendly, courteous, and helpful to guests and colleagues.
- Attend all-employee meetings and other management functions.
- Maintain professional relationships and open communication channels.
- Ensure pool and spa compliance with health codes.
- Use proper radio etiquette at all times.
- Chair Safety Committee, coordinate fire drills, and safety training.
- Maintain key control systems.
- Familiarize with Aimbridge Hospitality organization and department functions.
- Conduct daily property tours for debris, lighting, and irrigation checks.
- Handle Lost and Found items per standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
