Responsibilities- This is a professional position conducting confidential investigations of alleged abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.
- Conduct investigations regarding allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.
- Serve as a mentor to unit adult protective investigators; mentor new API staff by shadowing prior to preservice training, orienting to community and state agency partners, and serving as the new API’s mentor and contact during the probationary period.
- Inform the API supervisor, Operations Program Administrator, and APS region program office of potential issues including staffing, need for training, and higher level coaching of unit staff.
- Refer vulnerable adults to appropriate service providers as determined during the investigation, which may be initiated at any point during the investigation.
- Attend scheduled in-service and/or pre-service training as required; participate in conferences, staffings and meetings as required.
- Act as Acting Supervisor when the supervisor is unavailable by reviewing new intakes for appropriateness; assign investigations; complete thorough review of safety assessments, 30-day reviews and closures in a timely manner.
- Keep APS region program office informed of staffing and training needs.
- Experience in emergency, tactical or customer/public complaint interactions using communication technology; basic computer and typing skills.
- Knowledge of interviewing and observation techniques; knowledge of family dynamics and functioning.
- Skill in researching and utilizing internet sites to gather information.
- Ability to assess service needs and facilitate appropriate service delivery; write professional, accurate investigative reports.
- Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews; understand and apply relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to collect and synthesize evidentiary materials; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Active listening and effective communication; establish and maintain working relationships with others.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and working in a paperless environment.
- Maintain tact, patience, and courtesy when dealing with vulnerable adults; maintain a calm, professional demeanor for emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Demonstrate independent judgment and initiative to complete field assignments; typing and time management skills are necessary.
