Position SummaryThe Laboratory Supervisor is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all laboratory services provided by the Flow Cytometry department under their supervision. They oversee day-to-day laboratory operations, personnel, and monitoring processes to ensure acceptable performance. They help implement area procedures and operations and ensure metrics measuring quality, production, and efficiency are followed.
Responsibilities- Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and/or Medical Laboratory Director, ensure adequate performance of all laboratory procedures.
- Perform high complexity clinical tests by department procedures as needed (frequency not to exceed applicable state regulations for exempt employees).
- Present data across the lab, department, division, and corporate levels; answer questions from staff, managers, and clients.
- Develop and maintain detailed laboratory procedures manuals to meet accreditation and licensing requirements; ensure SOPs reflect current processes and update as needed.
- Provide direct supervision of the laboratory operation and personnel performing high complexity testing and reporting of results by qualified technologists.
- Initiate and monitor QC programs; assure regulatory compliance; monitor quality metrics and ensure corrective actions are documented and implemented.
- Recruit, train, and retain qualified laboratory personnel; ensure staff are trained and compliant with SOPs and skills checklists.
- Prepare employee reviews, approve time and attendance, maintain training files, and perform other administrative duties as required.
- Assist in establishing budgetary controls and cost management; prepare reports detailing departmental activities, revenues, and expenses as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Laboratory Director.
- Master of Arts or Master of Science in a chemical, physical, or biological science plus at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience, including at least two years in a clinical laboratory with a director at the doctoral level.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences with at least 1 year of additional study and at least 6 years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience, including 2 years in a clinical laboratory with a director at the doctoral level.
- Six (6) or more years of experience in high complexity testing preferred in the assigned specialty; at least one year internal service as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist III typically required for promotion.
- Three (3) or more years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Certification/Licensure: ASCP certification for the assigned specialty (where available); current state supervisor-level license to perform laboratory testing in FL, CA, and TN as applicable.
