Under the general direction of the City Engineer, this advanced professional civil engineering position involves complex design and construction of capital improvement projects. The role includes decision-making on project scope, contracting, design, policies, and procedures, exercising significant independent judgment.

The position includes supervisory responsibilities, such as planning, assigning, and evaluating work, as well as handling performance issues and resolving complaints.

Responsibilities and Emergency Reporting:


Essential Employees

May be required to work during declared emergencies, possibly around the clock for several days on short notice.


Non-Essential Employees
:
Will not be required to work during emergencies; department heads will determine work requirements.

The role includes oversight of consultants, managing design and construction reviews, preparing and negotiating contracts, conducting public meetings, ensuring design integrity, supporting technical aspects, long-range planning, bid processes, and construction oversight. Strong communication skills and proficiency with standard software are required. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related fields, five years of relevant experience, and a valid Florida Driver's License.

Candidates must possess or obtain a Professional Engineering or Geologist license, or PMP/PMI-CP certification within one year of hire.

Preferred qualifications include an Engineering Intern Certification or an out-of-state Professional Engineering license.
