Position Description

Hands on field supervision of paving projects with extensive knowledge of asphalt paving operation and equipment. We require that they be committed to the total Ajax team effort by contributing to the proper completion of the work.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Asphalt Paving Foreman directly reports to and is accountable to the Project Superintendent.

Position Requirements

A. EDUCATION

High School Graduate and minimum of five years' experience managing paving operations.

B. LICENSING/REGISTRATIONS

Preferred:

• Asphalt Paving Level 1 & 2
• Traffic Control Supervisor Certification

C. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Hands on motivated leader.
• Demonstrate an ability to organize, control, and manage all areas of the paving field operation.
• Knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in road construction.
• Knowledge of possible defects and faults in work and of stages where such faults and defects are most readily ascertained.
• Ability to understand and interpret terms and specifications of contracts.
• Ability to conduct effective paving inspections for compliance.
• Ability to calculate figures and mathematical concepts.
• Experience with Superpave preferred.
• Understanding of DOT and site projects.
• Understand work orders and recognize discrepancies

D. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Note:

• Supervise and train asphalt paving crew
• Plan day's operation, order asphalt/trucks
• Insure paving completed per contract specifications
• Clean, measure and layout
• Schedule repairs and maintenance
• Insure safe working conditions for crew
• Complete crew's timesheets
• Keep up with rollers for density
• Keep records on tonnage.
• Insure quality of work at all times
• Assist in equipment relocation to job sites
• Review problems on projects with project superintendent

E. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL

• Enforce and abide by all rules listed in the Ajax Safe Practices Handbook.
• Insure all Ajax quality standards are met.
• Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental rules and regulations.

F. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Field operation - Work is exposed to outdoor conditions, noise and heat.
• Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.

G. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, low level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.

I. ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY

• Reporting to work on time, after lunch, and not leaving early unless authorized.
• Always providing proper notification and advance notice of absence.
• Not abusing or taking advantage of personal days off.
• Maintaining work area in a neat and orderly manner.
• Performing such other duties as may be required.
