Employment Security Representative I — Fort Myers, FL Pay: $35,000 annually – firm. This role supports Florida Commerce’s mission to promote employment and training programs and provides counseling and placement services to individuals seeking work.
ResponsibilitiesThe position markets employment and training programs, offers vocational counseling, and secures employer cooperation for candidate placement. Key duties include:
- Providing counseling to unemployed or career‑looking individuals, determining interests, aptitudes, and training needs.
- Referencing clients to private or public agencies and ensuring employer participation in placements.
- Developing and implementing marketing plans to engage community and civic organizations about One‑Stop services.
- Assisting applicants with job searches, resume development, job openings, and vocational objectives.
- Meeting with selected candidates for the Priority Reemployment Planning Program, providing orientation and resume review.
- Coordinating applicant screening, selection, and evaluation, and forwarding correspondence to clients and employers.
- Acting as complaint specialist for the Fort Myers Center, processing complaints and maintaining logs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Understanding of employment development and placement principles.
- Knowledge of basic public relations and effective communication techniques.
- Interviewing and counseling skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
- Data entry and system task (record creation, search, report review).
- Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Public liaison skills – tactful, courteous, effective.
- Independent work planning, organization, and coordination.
- Vocational counseling competency.
- Verbal communication skills.
- Problem‑solving and learning of State of Florida computer systems.
- Level 2 security background screening (fingerprinting and law‑enforcement record checks) required.
- Successfully complete Florida Certified Workforce Professional Tier 1 training within one year.
- Must travel and provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Services, Education, or related field with 2 years of sales/marketing experience.
- Professional experience in employment security, counseling, job placement, aptitude testing, or job analysis may be used to substitute for college education.
- Registered with Employ Florida.
