Overview
This is a full-time Interviewing Clerk – OPS (Other Personnel Services) position in the Economic Self Sufficiency Program Customer Service Center in Fort Myers. The role will interview applicants to determine the type of services and public assistance needs, both over the phone and in person in the Service Center Lobby. This OPS position is paid $16.71 per hour and is scheduled for full-time hours.
LocationLee County, Fort Myers, FL. Applicants interested in counties/cities other than Lee County should apply for positions advertised for those specific areas on the People First System.
Responsibilities- Interview applicants to determine eligibility for public assistance programs, including expedited food stamp services, based on intake information.
- Enter client data into the database from intake information; maintain necessary files and records.
- Perform general clerical duties, including inputting data for clients applying for public assistance benefits, answering the phone, operating photocopy machines, scanners, and other office equipment.
- Provide information clearly to applicants and recipients about eligibility and required documentation.
- A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical or public contact experience. College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.

- Knowledge and application of the policies, procedures, laws and programs governing the agency.
- Clear and accurate communication to obtain and verify information concerning eligibility.
- Detect and evaluate potential fraudulent situations.
- Analyze and interpret written, numerical, and verbal data from various sources.
- Be detail oriented and enter data accurately into a computerized system.
- Navigate computer screens, complete and review basic computer documents and other forms.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
- Prepare, clear, concise and accurate records and other documentation.
- Interact with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner.
- Proficient in computer use and typing skills.
- Follow written and oral directions and instructions.
- Plan and organize to ensure work is completed in accordance with eligibility and timeliness regulations.
- Review data for accuracy and completeness and maintain filing systems.
All applicants must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and may be screened in accordance with Chapter 435, F.S., and Chapter 408, F.S. No applicant may begin employment until the background screening results are received, reviewed for any disqualifying offenses, and approved by the Agency. Background screening includes fingerprinting for State and Federal criminal records checks through FDLE and FBI and may include local checks.
Employees are subject to background re-screening at least every five (5) years.
