Description

The Lead Physical Therapist provides evaluation and sets up treatment programs for all patients referred to the Physical Therapy Department; provides physical therapy treatment to referred patients; writes and reviews patients progress reports, including charting, and reports to referring physicians; consults with prosthetists/orthotists and suppliers of patient care products; provides correct information on Medicare and Medi Cal and all other forms;

provides correct statistics and billing information for Physical Therapy patients; educates staff in departmental/hospital concerns and instructs new employees in safe body mechanics; assists with preparation of and monitors departmental budget; attends hospital and community meetings as appropriate, serving on various committees; develops, implements, maintains, and reviews policies and procedures for department services, including administrative, clinical and COI and prepares any necessary reports;

orients and trains new and continuing staff regarding scope and needs of physical therapy department; participates in continuing education programs to enhance skills and knowledge; and performs other duties as assigned.

The Lead Physical Therapist has authority and responsibility of supervising the productivity of Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Speech Therapist and others who may be assigned to the Physical Therapy Department.

QUALIFICATIONS
:

Degree / Licensure / Certification / Registration
:
Requires graduation from an accredited physical with a Bachelors or Masters Degree as appropriate. Requires a current and valid Arizona license. Requires continuing education and training to maintain Arizona licensure. Must have current BLS Certification.

Experience Required
: A minimum of 3 years previous experience as a PT.

:

Must possess the ability to delegate tasks to subordinate team members and oversee their performance. Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment. Must be able to maintain confidentiality on large amounts of information.

Must possess the ability to prioritize work and to be aware of multiple time frames, and to perform the essential duties of the position. Must administer, organize and plan the activities of the department to ensure effective physical therapy evaluations and treatments for inpatients of all age groups, and cultural backgrounds, interpret hospital and departmental policies to staff, analyze and resolve employee problems, ensure employees are provided with the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their responsibilities and ensure that work is completed in an accurate and cost effective manner.

May be exposed to infectious diseases and emergency situations. Must possess the ability to use the following equipment:
Telephone / Overhead Paging System / Fax Machine / Calculator / Computer / All rehab equipment. Must be able to work any scheduled shifts. Must be willing to work periodic overtime and be prepared to take call as requested. Completed Competency Based Skills Checklists for unit(s) assigned.
