The location in Fort Mill, (South Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Director, Paper making Optimization - PIO
. This job is full-time permanent.

Director, Paper making Optimization - PIO

Overview: The Director of Paper making Optimization reports into the corporate Performance Improvement Office of the Paper and Packaging division. In this role, you will support our fleet of paper and pulp machines as a subject matter expert to assist in problem-solving, benchmark and communicate on technology and better practices, consult on capital projects, network across the mills and the industry, all this with a strong focus on safety and operational excellence.

  • Drive problem-solving, in collaboration with mill personnel, and develop sustainable plans to address machine performance issues.
  • Support mills to develop short and long term action plans to improve machine OEE (overall equipment effectiveness).
  • Participate in capital project process to help in development and execution of sound improvement investments.
  • Benchmark across the company and outside, evaluate and communicate about technology, processes and methodologies that will improve paper and pulp machine productivity and safety.
  • Co-lead the paper and pulp machine Functional Team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of tools and methods utilized by continuous improvement driven efforts and be able to lead / participate; a lean six-sigma certification (green belt / black belt) is preferred.
  • Ability to translate technical information into comprehensive and useful information for non-initiates.
  • Ability to summarize.
  • Ease of communication with leadership as well as hourly employees.
  • Excellent networking ability, bringing people and problems together.
  • Ability to manipulate data and organize it to produce meaningful information.
  • Have ability to remotely monitor company machine operations with data historian tools (PARCview, QIS and others).
  • Demonstrated leadership to facilitate groups and lead teams to achieve long term goals.

Your profile:

  • 10-15 years of experience in paper making operations.
  • Multi-mill experience is preferable.
  • Technical education, focus on paper making processes. Engineering degree is desirable.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of paper machine equipment, processes and chemistry.
  • Self-driven and able to work remotely while leading effective problem-solving.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time.
  • Bilingual (English, French) is an asset
