Position: Clinical Assistant (CMA/RMA/LPN/ATC/EMT) - Indian Land

Overview

Ortho Carolina is seeking a Part Time Clinical Assistant in our Indian Land office. The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care, including routine office procedures and testing, patient education, effective communication, and partnering with the physician/mid-level provider in delivering patient care.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of EMR (Epic)
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls, gather pertinent facts, be accurate and concise to assess patient health status, and act as liaison between patient and provider
  • Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to orthopedic care
  • Communicate effectively and clearly; respond to questions from patients, physicians/mid-level providers, and co-workers
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing, or equivalent experience with certification
  • Certification is required
  • Certification eligibility information available from national certification organizations
  • CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations:
    American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • EMTs require Emergency Medical Technician certification. National certification is accepted; state certification is required upon recertification
  • Athletic Trainers (ATCs) must be board certified as Athletic Trainers
  • New graduates are welcome
  • Travel to other OC locations may be required
Typical Day

A typical day involves collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner to ensure high-quality, compassionate patient care. The clinical assistant greets patients and escorts them to the exam room. They obtain and document past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patient medications and allergies in the EHR system (EPIC). This role assists the practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures, in addition to cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter.

Tasks include suture/staple removal, assisting with casting/bracing, and assisting with injections. The position also educates patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures in accordance with physician instruction. It may also involve ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, and monitoring work queues in the EHR system.
