Senior Transmission Line Project Engineer (Southeast)
WSP is currently seeking a Senior Transmission Line Project Engineer. The office location is flexible within the Southeast region, with a preference for our Ft. Mill, SC;
Charlotte, NC;
Orlando, FL;
Ft. Lauderdale, FL;
Birmingham, AL;
Atlanta, GA; or Richmond, VA offices. You will be an integral part of the Power Delivery Team, working on projects that help clients meet their objectives and overcome challenges.
Provide technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site and multi‑phase due diligence, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of public and private infrastructure projects. Tasks include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction support for facilities such as roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment. Substantiate reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, and construction specifications while maintaining quality standards for safety and functionality.
YourImpact Project Engineering Leadership
- Lead and execute the engineering of transmission projects up to 765 kV.
- Support the initial project execution layout to ensure an efficient and effective project plan has been established.
- Maintain a detailed project schedule.
- Conduct weekly or bi‑weekly project meetings to outline upcoming deliverables and tasks with clearly identified personnel.
- Coordinate with clients on project status and support project meetings as needed.
- Maintain project workflow and thorough communication across multi‑disciplinary projects, both internal and external to POWER.
- Forecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planning.
- Facilitate and adhere to WSP’s QA/QC procedures.
- Participate in industry conferences to enhance professional growth and share knowledge with colleagues.
- Demonstrate transmission line design expertise in PLS‑CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, structure loading, material procurement, construction specifications, construction methods, construction estimates, and construction support.
- Lead project teams of varying sizes.
- Travel to client offices, field sites, and vendor facilities as required.
- Support the Project Manager with project status reports.
- Help PMs develop scope, schedule, and budget for new projects.
- Identify out‑of‑scope items and support work scope variances.
- Provide weekly or bi‑weekly project updates and forecasting.
- Assist in meetings with clients, both in person and remotely.
- Develop client relationships to position WSP for future work.
- Support resource forecasting.
- Assist recruitment efforts.
- Provide business improvement methodologies and procedures.
- Support staff performance and technical development with department leadership.
- Contribute to business planning efforts.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5–7 years’ experience managing transmission projects and leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Professional Engineering (PE) licensure.
- Understanding of the NESC, RUS, and/or GO‑90.
- Strong grasp of transmission line fundamentals and PLS‑CADD operation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
- Field program planning, management, and execution experience.
- Subcontractor management experience.
- Cost estimating and scheduling expertise.
- Field experience.
- MBA from an accredited university.
- Active involvement in technical societies (IEEE, CIGRE, ASCE, etc.).
- Experience using ArcGIS, AutoCAD/Micro Station, and foundation design software (e.g., FAD Tools, SHAFT, LPILE).
- POLE and TOWER design experience.
