Sign Language Interpreter – Mid to Experienced Level (MD, GA, TX)

Overview
Office of Reasonable Accommodation Services seeks a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and transliteration services for Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing employees across Maryland, Georgia, and Texas.

• Provide reasonable accommodations using ASL to facilitate communication for DHH users and hearing counterparts.
• Interpret complex subject matter in classified, highly technical, and sensitive contexts, including polygraph sessions, high‑profile platform interpreters, and technical training.
• Prepare for assignments by reading materials, researching terminology, and adopting appropriate communication styles.
• Offer education or consultation to facilitate interactions among employees, associates, and visitors.
• Demonstrate superior proficiency in ASL, including Pidgin Signed English (PSE) and Manually Coded English (MCE).
• Maintain professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity in all settings.
• Commuting to satellite offices and traveling domestically and internationally for service delivery.
• Maintain accurate and timely assignment records.

• Required:
  
  Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification.
• Strong working knowledge of ASL, PSE, and MCE.
• Minimum of 4 years experience as a RID‑certified interpreter (at least 1 year in a federal or intelligence setting).
• Education:
  
  High school diploma or equivalent plus at least 7 years of experience, or 2 years of college plus 5 years of experience (Full‑Performance); 12 years of experience for Senior entry.
• Ability to interpret or transliterate highly specialized terminology and adapt to cryptologic language needs.

• Salary range: $73,939 – $185,234 depending on level and experience.
• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8‑hour days (flexible). Two‑year DCIPS trial period, unless veteran’s preference applies.
