Join the Hawaiʻi Inventions Incorporated (HII) team as a Hardware Engineer 2 in our Mission Technologies division. In this role you will reverse engineer and analyze DoD hardware assets to determine their operational parameters and support secure system design.

HII Mission Technologies (HII‑MT) specializes in reverse engineering and microelectronics trust and assurance. You will use proprietary software tools and industry standard EDA tools to analyze embedded processors, DSPs, filters, transceivers, data links, and decoders. This work supports U.S. military and federal agency partners across cybersecurity, electronic warfare, encryption, radar, and satellite communications.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Perform hardware analysis and reverse engineering of Department of Defense assets.
- Produce clear documentation describing components, capabilities, and features of asset systems.
- Use HII proprietary tools, FPGA vendor tools, and third‑party EDA tools for modeling, simulation, and analysis.
- Collaborate with teammates to deliver cohesive results and improve processes.
- 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; 0 years with a Master’s; or high‑school diploma with 6 years of experience.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Active DoD Top Secret/SCI with full‑scope polygraph at the time of consideration.
- Experience with Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL.
- Experience with industry‑standard EDA tools and processes (synthesis, P&R, simulation, etc.).
- Ability to learn new skills quickly.
- Experience with debugging interfaces (JTAG, SWD, etc.).
- Experience with signal protocol analysis (RS232, CAN, PCIe, Gigabit serial, etc.).
- Proficiency with ASIC, FPGA, or SOC design tools (Quartus, Vivado, ISE, etc.).
- Proficiency with EDA tools (Synopsis, Altium, Modelsim).
- Experience with formal verification tools and methodologies (One Spin 360, Questa, etc.).
- Experience modifying hardware for non‑intended tasks.
- Experience bypassing encryption schemes (power glitching, side‑channel attacks, etc.).
Work may be required in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environments. Candidates must be able to climb ladders, tolerate confined spaces, and endure extreme temperature variations.
