Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in ECS & grades 1-6.
Qualifications- Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
- May be required to obtain NVCI Level A & B
- Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
- Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
- Work collaboratively under the guidance of the teacher, CST, and members of a multi‑disciplinary team
- Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
- Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
- Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school-specific behaviour strategies
- Observe student behaviour with a focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
- Provide a high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
- Work and play at the student’s physical level of their activities
- Provide support in the use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
- Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP), if required
- Medical Procedures – such as catheter, tube feeding, feeding and swallowing support, or diabetic monitoring
- Able to understand, implement and support a modified curriculum
- Able to work with and support students with autism or complex medical needs
- Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
- Physical ability to lift and move students
- Provide school-directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning, and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e‑mail, Internet and MS Office.
