The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in High School Specialized Education Programs.
Qualifications- Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
- Able to understand/support Social, LA, Math and Sciences Grades 7-12 including 30-1 levels
- Able to understand and support students academically in Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts. Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development.
- Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development.
- Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
- Work collaboratively under the guidance of teacher, CST and other members of the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning.
- Communicate effectively with students using age‑appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school‑specific behaviour strategies.
- Observe student behaviour with a focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigating/preventing negative ones.
- Provide a high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes.
- Provide support in the use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs.
- Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP), if required.
- Manage student behaviour using strategies learned through NVCI certification (Specific requirement only).
- Able to work with students with Autism or complex medical needs.
- Provide school‑directed indoor and outdoor student supervision.
Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress‑related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language‑related disabilities, etc. may be encountered.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e‑mail, Internet and MS Office.
