GENERAL DESCRIPTION
:

The Training Officer IV is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of comprehensive training programs for the Regional Emergency Services. This role ensures that emergency personnel are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to perform safe and effective work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and other specialized disciplines. The Training Officer IV also oversees curriculum design, instructional delivery, performance evaluation, and compliance with applicable legislation, standards, and best practices.

In addition, the position provides leadership in the mentorship and development of staff, supports succession planning, and contributes to organizational readiness through ongoing needs assessment, program improvement, and the integration of innovative training methodologies and technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver training to the Regional Emergency Services in all matters pertaining to fire, rescue, medical and prevention.
  • Establish and maintain priorities and schedules for training sessions.
  • Research and develop training programs and materials in support of municipal training initiatives.
  • Develop and test customized approaches to training based on needs of individual training sessions.
  • Plan and organize individual and branch programs in support of municipal training initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Mentor, coaches, and provides support to leaders and employees as it relates to training requirements.
  • Liaise and assist with internal and external stakeholders in support of branch and regional initiatives.
  • Assist in the updating and maintenance of accurate record keeping for personnel.
  • Liaise and assist with mutual aid agencies with respect to training and exercise participation.
  • Provide input and assistance as required for area business plan and budgetary requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Attend training as required to support training and municipal initiatives.
  • Perform such tasks as necessary to support and maintain continuity of Regional Emergency Services.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate excellent instructional abilities for the adult learner.
  • The ability to research, develop, construct, initiate and effectively implement quality training programs.
  • Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication.
  • Capable of working as a self-starter and demonstrating strong leadership, motivational and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse end users.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, spreadsheets, databases, and learning management systems, with a demonstrated thorough understanding of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • NFPA 1001 Level I and II
  • NFPA 1002 Driver Operator and Pump Operator
  • NFPA 1140 Wildland
  • NFPA 470 Dangerous Goods Operations
  • NFPA 1041 Level I Instructor
  • Pro Board or IFSAC seals
  • Additionally, thefollowing are considered preferred qualifications, in addition to the above requirements:

  • NFPA 1002 (Ariel Operator)
  • NFPA 1006 Rope (Tech Level)
  • NFPA 1006 Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue (Tech Level)
