Position: Educational Assistant 3 - Temporary

    Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
  • Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
  • Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi‑disciplinary team
  • Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
  • Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
  • Communicate effectively with students using age‑appropriate Burkina positivity and/or school‑specific behaviour strategies
  • Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
  • Provide a high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
  • Work and play at the student’s physical level of their activities
  • Provide support in the use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
  • Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP), if required
  • Understand, implement and support a modified curriculum
  • Work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
  • Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
  • Have the physical ability to lift and move students
  • Provide school‑directed indoor and outdoor student supervision

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress‑related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language‑related disabilities may also be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e‑mail, Internet and MS Office.
