The I&SS Civil Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing civil construction, maintenance, and infrastructure activities supporting mining operations at a remote oil sands site. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of civil scope related to site infrastructure, including roads, drainage, foundations, utilities, laydown areas, and support facilities.
The successful candidate will work closely with contractors, engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure alignment with site priorities, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate on-site civil construction and maintenance activities within Infrastructure & Site Services (I&SS).
- Act as the primary field liaison between contractors, engineering, project management, and operations teams.
- Monitor contractor performance for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule compliance.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and site standards.
- Support planning and execution of civil works including:
- Site grading and earthworks
- Haul roads and access roads
- Drainage systems and culverts
- Concrete foundations and structural slabs
- Building pads and infrastructure tie‑ins
- Participate in daily coordination meetings and provide field updates on progress, risks, and constraints.
- Identify and mitigate field execution risks, including weather, ground conditions, and contractor resourcing.
- Review and validate field change requests, RFIs, and scope adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Support cost tracking, quantity verification, and progress reporting.
- Promote strong safety culture and ensure adherence to site safety management systems.
- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of civil coordination or construction supervision experience in heavy industrial, mining, or oil and gas environments.
- Experience in oil sands mining operations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods in cold weather and remote site conditions.
- Familiarity with earthworks, road building, underground services, and structural concrete.
- Understanding of site safety programs and contractor management.
- Proficiency with project documentation, scheduling tools, and field reporting systems.
- Strong field leadership and contractor coordination
- High attention to safety and quality standards
- Ability to manage competing site priorities
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
- Adaptability to remote camp‑based work rotations
- Camp‑based rotational schedule (14/14)- Fly in fly out from Calgary, Edmonton, Fort Mc Murray
- Outdoor field environment in varying weather conditions Frequent interaction with contractors, operators, and maintenance personnel
