Excavator Operator

Thompson Construction Group has current openings for Excavator Operators supporting operations in the Fort McMurray area. This role involves operating excavators safely and efficiently within active construction and earthworks environments while maintaining high standards of safety, communication, and equipment care.

• Operate excavators for tasks including loading trucks, trenching, ditching, sloping, and general earthworks
• Perform pre-operational and routine equipment inspections prior to use
• Follow direction from supervisors regarding work areas and daily tasks
• Maintain awareness of ground disturbance requirements and underground utilities
• Operate equipment in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safe work practices
• Participate in site safety meetings and safety programs
• Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment concerns
• Report incidents, near misses, and equipment damage to site supervision
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, spotters, and other operators
• Assist with general site duties as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating excavators in heavy civil construction, earthworks, or mining environments
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to work in the Fort McMurray area and reside in remote camps on a rotational schedule
• CSO certification required
• Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive, and First Aid considered assets
• Physically capable of performing assigned duties
• Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test

This is a full-time, project-based position located in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Employment duration is dependent on project requirements and client needs.
