GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThese Summer Student positions will provide support in the Recreation & Culture Branch of the Community Services Department. The student will assist with various administrative and customer service activities in the assigned area from May 2026 to August 2026. These positions are within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit and are located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.
These positions will be based in an office setting but will also provide support to the team by participating in community events and programs.
- Work with the Recreation & Culture Team and assist with supporting the planning and execution of various events, programs, and initiatives.
- Implement, create, and maintain documents such as invoices, files, expenses, notifications, spreadsheets, statistical reports, presentations, and other related documentation.
- Provide reception and customer service duties, including responding to telephone enquiries.
- Primary contact for the public; responsible for issuing files and keeping others informed.
- Collect, compile and assemble reports and statistical information for distribution internally and externally.
- Develop and maintain filing systems.
- May be required to prepare agendas, record minutes of meetings, and distribute to the appropriate staff.
- Accurately process information into computerized systems.
- Compile and organize data to assist with the creation of promotional materials for events and programs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Proven ability to take accurate notes and minutes.
- Ability to work independently and accomplish multiple tasks with deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changing practices and work demands.
- Must have proven interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in various computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.
- Must be medically and physically able to perform the job on an ongoing basis.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of one (1) year of post‑secondary education is required.
- Preference will be given to students enrolled in post‑secondary Office or Business Administration programs that have an interest in Recreation/Sport Administration, Arts/Culture Administration, Community Development, or related programs.
Candidates who are successful during the interview process will be required to provide the following documents:
- Proof of full‑time post‑secondary enrollment for the Winter 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters.
- A copy of a High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- A copy of a valid Class Five (5)
