Mechanical Engineer

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Incumbent will perform professional engineering duties for the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Lee Garrison.

• Develops, rigorously reviews, and evaluates project plans, specifications, scopes of work, designs, and cost estimates of mechanical HVAC equipment, EMCS controls, and other mechanical building systems.
• Conducts comprehensive field investigations and on-site inspections to troubleshoot complex issues and verify that the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems meet all specifications.
• Serves as the lead project manager for assigned engineering activities, overseeing project milestones, managing budgets, and coordinating with all stakeholders from initial planning through construction, and resolving design and operational issues.
• Evaluates and endorses all technical products, including designs, cost estimates, and schedules, ensuring sound engineering judgment and adherence to regulations.
• Represents the Directorate of Public Works in technical conferences and meetings, providing expert guidance and customer service to installation leaders and tenant organizations.
• Guides the development of working prototypes, layouts, and component designs that meet engineering and operational specifications.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
