The Aviation Department, which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Agent. The Airport is operated 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. This position will serve primarily in the Landside/Terminals functional area of the Airport Operations Division. However, it may also include opportunities to work in other functional areas of the Airport Operations Division.
As an Airport Operations Agent you will be responsible for supporting the overall functions of the airport, with duties to include, but not limited to, assisting with various types of emergency responses, responding to incidents and accidents and preparing related reports, ensuring that documentation is both accurate and detailed, assisting customers by answering questions and providing information and guidance/direction, managing and directing large crowds of people, enforcing Airport Rules and Regulations and Broward County Code of Ordinances, monitoring parking and curbside operations, performing security inspections and security related tasks, and providing overall customer service to both internal and external customers.
Performs specialized, independent operations work involving a considerable amount of public contact in the dynamic environment of the County's Aviation Department. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and ExperienceRequires two (2) years of college level course work in airport management, aeronautical science or closely related field. (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.) Requires one (1) year experience in airport operations or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and Customs Seal.
- Associate Degree in Aviation Management or related field.
- Two (2) years' experience in airport operations or related field.
Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
Scope of WorkThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
- Monitors and assists in the coordination of proper operation of airport operational areas to ensure compliance with established rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and contractual tenant leasehold requirements; issues Notices of Violations and/or citations for non-compliance with airport rules, regulations, and Broward County Code of Ordinances.
- Assists with ensuring proper control of persons and vehicles in restricted access areas of the airport, including monitoring vehicle operations for compliance with the Airfield Driving Program and Ground Transportation Program.
- Monitors all automated equipment systems for fire, security, and maintenance alarms, making appropriate notifications when necessary, and maintains surveillance to ensure security systems are operational.
- Inspects and monitors airport equipment and facilities for housekeeping, aesthetics, safety, security, and general conditions; takes appropriate action to rectify unsuitable conditions.
- Provides information, directions, and assistance regarding airport facilities, tenants, users, and operational conditions while ensuring safe, secure, and expeditious movement of the traveling public.
