Work You Will Do

Equipment Operator / District Four / Transportation Operations / District Maintenance / Ft. Lauderdale Maintenance – Roadway Repair

This position will contribute to the agency by operating and maintaining a variety of heavy and light equipment used in construction, maintenance, and operational projects. This role ensures that agency infrastructure, facilities, and services are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards.

Annual Salary Range

$38,581.03 - $49,928.39

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license, operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to;

dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance;
Oversees crews performing maintenance activities.

Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.

Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.

Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.

Other Job-Related Requirements

Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies when necessary. Possess a valid Class E driver’s license and obtain a Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to position and obtain a Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment to the position. While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of CDL the incumbent is required to possess.

Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control – Intermediate Level within one year and maintain.
