General Description
The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Supervisor. This is administrative and supervisory work in managing the overall operation of a functional area within the Aviation Operations Division. Work may involve responsibility for planning, coordinating and managing the operation of the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC), Terminal, Landside, and Airfield within Operations sections of a County airport.
Employees in this class supervise and train subordinates engaged in airport operations and inspections, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and County rules, regulations, and procedures. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment in planning and implementing operational procedures related to the assigned section, and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Duties include working rotating shifts and assignments, including holidays and weekends.
Work requires communication with the public, airport tenants, foreign, Federal, State, local government, and other agencies. All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors, and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in airport management, business administration, or closely related field.
- (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
- Requires four (4) years in airport operations work including one (1) year lead work/supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and a Customs and Border Protection seal, and non-movement or movement area driving privileges.

- American Association of Airport Executives Airport Certified Employee (AAAE-ACE) in Operations, Communications or Security
- American Association of Airport Executives Certified Member (AAAE-CM)
- American Association of Airport Executives Accredited Airport Executives (AAAE-AAE)
- Airports Council International (ACI) Diploma in Airport Operations
- Airports Council International International Airport Professional (ACI-IAP)
- Proficiency with emergency tabletop exercise and live drill planning.
- Compliance with CHRC/STA requirements for SIDA Badge (TSA requirement)
Scope of Work
The functions listed below are representative of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
- Provide overall supervision and direct subordinates in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures involving airport safety, security, daily operations, appearance, etc.
- Schedule and conduct inspections, briefings and receive reports or electronic media through subordinates.
- Respond to airport emergencies, direct use of Aviation Department resources, coordinate with emergency responders, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and other agencies. Staff incident unified command and Airport emergency operations center.
- Direct subordinate personnel in support of incident command function during emergencies.
- Develop, coordinate and implement operating procedures related to routine and emergency operation of the assigned specialized area.
- Perform research and prepare reports on legislation, rules, operational policies/procedures and other factors affecting airport operations.
