Position: Facility Maintenance Technician I

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician based in Pembroke Pines, FL, you’ll be responsible for performing technical duties associated with the Backflow Prevention Cross‑Connection Control Program to prevent infiltration of contaminants and/or pollutants into the potable water supply.

You’ll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise in our client’s state‑of‑the‑art facilities. Most importantly, you’ll take action to ensure the safety, health and well‑being of your team and our planet.

Here’s what you’ll need.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist with continued development of the Backflow Prevention Cross‑Connection Program.
  • Inspect sites for illegal water connections or cross connections and eliminate them by using proper connections and backflow prevention devices.
  • Eliminate uncontrolled interconnections to the potable water supply/system.
  • Educate the public concerning the backflow prevention program, devices used and proper connections.
  • Maintain records, drawings, computer data files and associated information regarding the Backflow Prevention Program.
  • Test and repair backflow preventors and components by using industry standards and state laws as a guideline.
  • Follow backflow testing schedule as regulated by state laws.
  • Use backflow testing devices to ensure the proper testing of devices, recommend replacement or repair, perform a survey of accounts to establish exposure to contamination, and make recommendations for backflow prevention requirements for each account.
  • Install backflows to serve accounts, ensuring all installations meet applicable state and AWWA regulations and standards.
  • Prioritize improvements to accounts with improper backflow devices and perform installations of waterlines to accomplish these upgrades.
  • Assist in keeping detailed records of backflow devices.
  • Respond to sewer cleanout and lift station calls during normal duty hours and on‑call.
  • Read water meters.
  • Perform spring/fall flushing of hydrants.
  • Perform fire hydrant testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, private contractors, government agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
  • Ability to obtain a backflow license within 180 days.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Backflow license with demonstrable experience.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, and procedures involved in installing and testing backflow prevention devices.
  • Knowledge of ongoing development of the water system.
  • Knowledge of water safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and city rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of cross‑connections within a plumbing and piping system.
