The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Sr. Manager, Communications & Public Relations.

General Description

Broward County's Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Lauderdale) is looking for a Senior Manager of Communications & Public Relations to serve as a key strategist and project lead for Visit Lauderdale’s earned media, messaging, and stakeholder communications efforts. Reporting directly to the SVP of Communications, this role manages proactive and reactive PR programs, editorial planning, media briefings, and content development across domestic and international markets.

This position ensures the voice and reputation of Visit Lauderdale are represented accurately and strategically across all earned channels, including press releases, speeches, media responses, and thought leadership. The Senior Manager also plays a vital role in preparing executive communications and aligning messaging with broader organizational goals; performs complex, professional services and supervisory work of dynamic programs and partnership management at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB);

works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

This position will have one direct-report. This position is not remote and will work in a professional office environment with occasional travel. Evening and weekend work may be required for media events or crisis communications.

In the event of a disaster (hurricane, etc.) all Broward County employees become emergency workers. This position will assist in various emergency functions as-assigned before, during, and after a disaster. This includes, but is not limited to, working at Broward County's Emergency Operations Center during a disaster.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communications, marketing, business administration, public relations, journalism, or closely related field.
  • Requires four (4) years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or content strategy — two (2) of which must be in a supervisory or managerial role.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

None.

Preferences
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in public relations, communications, or content strategy — three (3) of which must be in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Experience in tourism, hospitality, government, or destination marketing strongly preferred.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

  • Develops and implements earned media strategies to enhance the visibility and credibility of Visit Lauderdale in consumer, trade, and business press.
  • Leads development of annual PR plans, editorial calendars, key message documents, and media outreach campaigns in collaboration with PR Manager and agency partners.
  • Drafts and edits high-level communications materials including press releases, talking points, op-eds, media responses, and stakeholder announcements.
  • Serves as lead liaison with County stakeholders, tourism partners, and other public agencies to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.
