Requirements And Preferences
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Maintenance Worker in the Building Services unit within the Libraries Division. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment within the library system. This position may be assigned to any location within the Libraries Division based on operational needs. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of custodial and related maintenance duties in the Libraries Building Services unit under general supervision.
This position will perform tasks essential to the maintenance of a clean, safe, and welcoming library environment. Work includes locating, lifting, moving, and installation‑related activities of furniture, fixtures and equipment utilized in the County's Library system. In addition, this position performs setup for special events as needed, and may use basic hand and power tools safely in the assembly of furniture, carts, shelving, and other library equipment.

Minimum Education And Experience RequirementsRequires three (3) months in maintenance or closely related experience.
Special Certifications And Licenses RequiredPossess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Preferences- Vocational Training (maintenance and/or repair/accredited course/apprenticeship in building maintenance)
- Associate's Degree or higher
- Forklift Certificate
- Scissor Lift Certificate
- Aerial Lift Certificate
- Maintenance of Traffic Certificate (MOT)
- Two (2) plus years' experience with pressure washer, Genie lift, and power tools
- Two (2) plus years' experience with painting commercial/governmental buildings
- Experience with assembling furniture
Performs a variety of general building and grounds related maintenance and repairs at an assigned facility.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
The functions listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Maintains grounds and landscape areas to ensure they are presentable, clean, and safe.
Performs a variety of facility maintenance work to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, etc., to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and staff; moves a variety of furniture and related items to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, and sets up for meetings, activities, and events.
Interacts with the public and/or other County employees to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify service needs, and/or resolve day‑to‑day operational issues.
Sets out temporary traffic‑control devices at the work site to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
Prepares a variety of log sheets to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
Maintains a variety of landscape and construction‑related equipment to ensure it operates safely and appropriately when needed, extend its useful life, minimize downtime, and reduce major repair/replacement costs.
Performs related work as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical DemandsPhysical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
