Staff Legal Managing Attorney

Zurich Insurance is currently seeking a Managing Attorney to lead our Fort Lauderdale, Florida Staff Legal office. The selected candidate will report to a Regional Managing Attorney and will supervise attorneys who handle Liability and Workers Compensation matters on behalf of Zurich’s insureds.

The Managing Attorney will not have their own caseload but will guide and coach the attorneys on the team who are responsible for representing commercial insureds by preparing and trying moderate to high exposure cases from a challenging and varied caseload.

• Lead and coach a team of attorneys and paralegals within the Office.
• Provide feedback and guidance on the most complex matters and highest exposures.
• Oversee the preparation and trial of moderate to high exposure Liability and Workers Compensation cases.
• Ensure that staff attorneys meet high standards of trial advocacy and litigation capabilities.
• Manage a hybrid work model, reporting to the Hollywood, Florida office three days per week.

• Juris Doctor and 10 or more years of litigation experience with significant first‑chair jury trial exposure.
• Active member in good standing with the Florida State Bar.
• Experience working with Lexis.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
• Strong knowledge of law and procedure.

• Prior management experience and demonstrated leadership courage.
• Familiarity with the defense of personal injury and workers’ compensation claims arising from general liability, auto, and construction.
• Extensive knowledge of law, procedure, and trial advocacy.
• Strong change‑management and communication skills with a strategic, forward‑focused mindset.
• Ability to embrace simplification, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Collaboration, consensus building, and influencing skills.
• Experience managing a staff of attorneys and paralegals working in a hybrid model.
• Ability to multi‑task, adapt, and navigate ambiguity with effective problem‑solving and analytical skills.

The proposed salary range for this position is $170,000 – $225,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%. Additional benefits include a comprehensive benefits package for employees and their families.
