Company Description The Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, 4th DCA Region ("RC4"), serves as a state agency providing legal representation to indigent individuals in criminal defense and dependency cases. RC4 defends individuals facing possible incarceration and represents parents at risk of losing parental rights in dependency cases. Functioning as a public law firm, RC4 is committed to delivering high-quality, client-centered representation within Florida's adversarial justice system.
RC4 serves clients across six counties:
Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee, which fall under the jurisdiction of the 4th District Court of Appeal.
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, for an Assistant Regional Counsel. The responsibilities include providing legal representation to court-appointed clients in dependency cases, including researching and preparing legal briefs, motions, and pleadings. The Assistant Regional Counsel will represent clients in court proceedings, negotiate on their behalf, and manage all aspects of legal proceedings, including trials. The role may also include consulting with colleagues about case strategies and ensuring adherence to legal and professional standards.
Qualifications- Strong legal research, written advocacy, and oral argument skills
- Effective client communication and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of child dependency law, including relevant case law and statutory requirements
- Ability to manage complex caseloads and prioritize tasks under deadlines
- Professional ethics, attention to detail, and a commitment to client-centered representation
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with The Florida Bar
- Trial experience in criminal or dependency cases is preferred
