Job DescriptionOverview: Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs that help restore vocational, homemaking, and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to disabled persons.
Responsibilities- Complete and maintain necessary records.
- Conduct research in occupational therapy.
- Consult with the rehabilitation team to select activity programs and coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
- Evaluate patients' progress and prepare reports detailing progress.
- Test and evaluate patients' physical and mental abilities, analyze medical data, and determine realistic rehabilitation goals.
- Evaluate and re-evaluate referred patients' ability to perform functional skills and plan a treatment program designed to meet identified goals.
- Conduct thorough and efficient evaluations using appropriate tests and measurements.
- Set functional, realistic, and measurable goals and demonstrate consistent achievement of those goals.
- Design a functional treatment plan reflecting prescribed therapy, incorporating applicable reimbursement issues.
- Re-evaluate and discharge patients within appropriate time frames.
- Utilize therapeutic techniques involving exercise, adaptive equipment, and splint fabrication; emphasize activities of daily living.
- Develop or assist in the creation of functional aids and perform routine equipment adjustments as needed.
- Provide patient education in conjunction with therapeutic treatments.
- Administer all treatments with competency, demonstrating understanding of theory and application.
- Maintain proper body mechanics and safe work practices; report any equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Assist others in completing competencies and provide ongoing cross‑training for specialized areas.
- Acquire yearly assessment of competencies, both general and area‑specific, and take responsibility to seek them out.
- Ensure care provided is appropriate for all ages, from neonates to geriatrics.
- Obtain and interpret information based on patients' needs; demonstrate knowledge of growth and development.
- Document information electronically in patient medical records; complete charge entries; participate in PI monitors as directed.
- Maintain complete, compliant patient records; reconcile patient charges daily; keep statistical data and PI monitors up to date.
- Use FIM scoring to document patients' functional performance and maintain FIM credentialed status.
- Initiate communication with physicians and other professionals to coordinate treatment efforts; contact family members and outside agents as needed.
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor, subordinates, and peers; schedule monthly meetings with supervisor.
- Participate in discharge planning; recommend follow‑up care, including outpatient therapy, re‑evaluation, and/or home care.
- After discharge, ensure effective instruction of patient and/or family; meet patient equipment needs.
- Remain alert to patients' physical and psychological condition; provide emotional or emergency support as needed.
- Recognize signs of distress and respond effectively; adhere to departmental policy and hospital codes in emergencies.
- Assist in orientation and supervision of subordinates, students, and volunteers; serve as student supervisor after one year of clinical experience.
- Initiate efforts to minimize downtime; attend necessary meetings, rearrange schedules with supervisor, pursue continuing education, and support self‑study.
- Participate in promotional activities such as health and recruitment fairs and departmental educational opportunities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment; address potential hazards immediately; report supply or equipment needs promptly.
- Perform other job‑related duties within scope as requested by supervisor.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy (required).
- Current Florida State Licensure in the State of Florida (required).
- National Board Certified Occupational Therapist (NBCOT) preferred.
