Our State and Local Tax () team is looking for a Manager with a background in Income/Franchise Tax.

The SALT Manager – Income/Franchise will have the opportunity to work onsite/hybrid from our Charlotte office.

As a SALT Income/Franchise Manager, you will:
Tax Consulting, Research and Compliance
  • Deliver a full range of multi-state and local tax consulting services, addressing various issues in the area of income, franchise, capital stock, license, and gross receipts taxes.
  • Conduct primary and secondary reviews of complicated or complex State and Local tax returns.
  • Draft tax technical memorandums, client correspondence and other various work products.
  • Understand and manage firm risk on tax services and proposals.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize clients’ multi-state tax burden through optimal filing methods, exemptions, credits/incentives, structuring alternatives, etc.
  • Analysis and modeling of structuring alternatives.
  • Provide state and local audit defense assistance to clients.
  • Research complex state and local tax issues using state statutes, regulations, case law and other relevant authorities/guidance.
  • Research state tax filing requirements that affect tax compliance.
  • Provide technical assistance with the tax compliance function in order to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Project/Task Management
  • Accept responsibility for and complete tasks assigned by SALT practice leaders in a timely fashion.
  • Make effective use of firm resources to complete a project.
  • Manage multiple client projects at any given time.
  • Alert SALT leadership in a timely fashion of any issues, constraints, challenges, and/or scheduling conflicts that may arise in completing the assigned task(s).
Engagement Management
  • Serve as the Engagement Manager on specific client accounts, taking responsibility for pre-engagement planning, execution, and final deliverable development.
  • Develop a professional relationship with the client. Gain the respect and confidence of the client by consistently demonstrating supreme customer service, quality work products, and professional integrity.
  • Serve as the prime point-of-contact to the client. Ensure that the client is fully informed of engagement progress and logistics.
  • Gain the respect and confidence of the Cherry Bekaert team through effective client management, timely and accurate communication, and clear and concise team direction.
  • Prepare timely and accurate bills for professional services rendered.
  • Prepare, organize and maintain engagement work papers and files.
  • Communicate periodically with clients following the completion of the engagement to ensure customer satisfaction.
New Business Development
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all tax, audit and consulting services provided by the firm. Link this understanding to potential client needs.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of current client needs and target client requirements.
  • Network internally. Communicate to the audit and consulting teams the types of tax services you provide to your clients to facilitate cross‑selling.
  • Identify and pursue outside business contacts through social, charitable, and business organizations. Become an active participant in these networking channels.
  • Work closely with partners, managers, and staff to integrate practice development skills into a team approach to client service and new business development.
  • Play a key role in the future business generation and continued development of the client base within industry groups and identify future client needs and new business opportunities.
  • Use an established network of business relationships within industry groups to generate new sales opportunities.
  • Maintain strong client relations and cross‑sell services within the assigned group of clients.
