Our State and Local Tax () team is looking for a Manager with a background in Income/Franchise Tax.
The SALT Manager – Income/Franchise will have the opportunity to work onsite/hybrid from our Charlotte office.
Tax Consulting, Research and Compliance
- Deliver a full range of multi-state and local tax consulting services, addressing various issues in the area of income, franchise, capital stock, license, and gross receipts taxes.
- Conduct primary and secondary reviews of complicated or complex State and Local tax returns.
- Draft tax technical memorandums, client correspondence and other various work products.
- Understand and manage firm risk on tax services and proposals.
- Identify opportunities to minimize clients’ multi-state tax burden through optimal filing methods, exemptions, credits/incentives, structuring alternatives, etc.
- Analysis and modeling of structuring alternatives.
- Provide state and local audit defense assistance to clients.
- Research complex state and local tax issues using state statutes, regulations, case law and other relevant authorities/guidance.
- Research state tax filing requirements that affect tax compliance.
- Provide technical assistance with the tax compliance function in order to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Accept responsibility for and complete tasks assigned by SALT practice leaders in a timely fashion.
- Make effective use of firm resources to complete a project.
- Manage multiple client projects at any given time.
- Alert SALT leadership in a timely fashion of any issues, constraints, challenges, and/or scheduling conflicts that may arise in completing the assigned task(s).
- Serve as the Engagement Manager on specific client accounts, taking responsibility for pre-engagement planning, execution, and final deliverable development.
- Develop a professional relationship with the client. Gain the respect and confidence of the client by consistently demonstrating supreme customer service, quality work products, and professional integrity.
- Serve as the prime point-of-contact to the client. Ensure that the client is fully informed of engagement progress and logistics.
- Gain the respect and confidence of the Cherry Bekaert team through effective client management, timely and accurate communication, and clear and concise team direction.
- Prepare timely and accurate bills for professional services rendered.
- Prepare, organize and maintain engagement work papers and files.
- Communicate periodically with clients following the completion of the engagement to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Develop a thorough understanding of all tax, audit and consulting services provided by the firm. Link this understanding to potential client needs.
- Identify opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of current client needs and target client requirements.
- Network internally. Communicate to the audit and consulting teams the types of tax services you provide to your clients to facilitate cross‑selling.
- Identify and pursue outside business contacts through social, charitable, and business organizations. Become an active participant in these networking channels.
- Work closely with partners, managers, and staff to integrate practice development skills into a team approach to client service and new business development.
- Play a key role in the future business generation and continued development of the client base within industry groups and identify future client needs and new business opportunities.
- Use an established network of business relationships within industry groups to generate new sales opportunities.
