Overview
The Senior Grants Accountant position supports the operations of the College's Grants Accounting department. Under limited supervision, the senior grants accountant is responsible for completing award and project billings and financial reporting in accordance with the contract award terms and conditions. This position reports and acts as a backup to the Assistant Director of Grants Accounting who is responsible for regularly interacting with grant managers, project directors, principal investigators, and the office of Resource Development and Sponsored programs.
Minimum EducationBachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting.
Minimum Experience/TrainingSix years of relevant experience.
Experience and Skills (Preferred)- Experience in grants/contracts/accounting in a higher education setting (preferred).
- Experience with accounting software and financial management systems.
- Workday experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance (preferred).
- Strong skills in spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel.
- Daily – 15%:
Assists with setting up grant awards and grant budgets and maintains up-to-date electronic files of all contracts, awards, and grants; audits as needed. - Daily – 15%:
Ensures that grants and contract funding are allocated and expended appropriately; analyzes budget spending rates; forecasts year-end expenditures and fulfills financial reporting requirements. - Monthly – 20%:
Prepares and submits monthly and quarterly invoices to funders and other stakeholders. - Monthly – 15%:
Assists in account maintenance, including creating journal entries for cost transfers, facilities and administration (overhead) cost adjustments and overages due to account reconciliation and close-out. - Annually – 5%:
Assists in the completion of the annual single audit reports on federal awards. - Ongoing – 10%:
Provides input and participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for grants accounting and compliance; provides training to stakeholders to improve processes and functionality. - Ongoing – 10%:
Assists with the College's ERP system maintenance and testing – Workday and related web applications pertaining to award management. - Ongoing – 5%:
Reviews, reports, analyzes, and interprets complex grants-related accounting information; monitors compliance with sponsor and regulatory requirements, GAAP, and College policies. - Other – 5%:
Performs related duties as assigned.

- Ability to present and disseminate data to various levels.
- Advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments, including Microsoft Office products and specialized computer systems.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees and student populations.
