Job Description & How to Apply Below

Reports to: Controller

This is an in-house, industry-based tax role, not public accounting. The position sits within a fast-growing real estate development company focused on workforce housing across South Florida. The environment is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and results-driven, with an emphasis on independent thinking and broad exposure beyond traditional tax compliance.

This role is ideal for a tax professional with a strong foundation in partnership taxation who wants to expand their scope into real estate operations, development, and asset-level accounting. The ideal profile is broad rather than narrow, curious, and comfortable wearing multiple hats while partnering with non-finance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with third-party CPA firms on preparation of Form 1065 partnership returns for 30+ entities, with continued growth.
  • Review and reconcile tax returns to GAAP financials, including Schedule M-1 and M-2.
  • Lead review of all K-1s, manage CPA communication, and book tax reconciliations.
  • Partner with the Controller to ensure tax compliance and optimization of taxable income.
  • Maintain and reconcile accounting records for cash-basis entities.
  • Prepare and distribute 1099s and K-1s to vendors, investors, and lenders.
  • Support tenant and applicant income verification compliance.
  • Assist with ad valorem property tax exemptions and tangible personal property tax filings.
  • Partner with the Controller on audit requests, asset-level accounting, and property management support.
  • Assist development teams with budgets, lender draws, and draw schedules.
Additional / Ad Hoc Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with tax advisors on cost segregation studies, energy efficiency studies, and tax credits.
  • Perform cost vs. benefit analyses related to tax strategies and development initiatives.
  • Research federal, state, and local tax matters impacting real estate partnerships.
  • Review operating and loan agreements for tax implications.
  • Assist with taxable income forecasting and investor inquiries related to K-1s.
  • Support insurance claims, policy applications, and lender escrow draw requests.
Performance Expectations
  • Heavy emphasis on 1065 partnership returns, specifically real estate partnerships.
  • K-1 deadline expectation of June 30.
  • Performance and bonus tied directly to meeting timelines and execution.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of partnership taxation with hands-on 1065 and K-1 experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, amortization schedules, and formulas such as SUMIF, XLOOKUP, INDEX, IF, and text functions.
  • Comfortable balancing tax work with general ledger and operational accounting.
  • Working knowledge of real estate, insurance, or financial services concepts.
  • Strong communication skills with internal teams, investors, lenders, and external advisors.
  • Independent-minded, resourceful, and comfortable solving problems without rigid direction.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency and analysis.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • CPA strongly preferred but not required.
  • 2–3 years of partnership tax experience.
  • Public accounting experience required.
  • Strong preference for hospitality (hotel) or financial services background.
  • Real estate experience is a plus, not mandatory.
Culture & Schedule
  • Social, collaborative, and team-oriented culture.
  • Flexible daily schedules, not rigid office hours.
  • Weekly all-hands meeting on Mondays, typically in the afternoon.
  • Team members manage their time independently, with accountability tied to results.
