What You'll Be Doing
- Perform field density testing of soils and aggregates using nuclear and/or sand cone methods.
- Sample and test fresh concrete for slump, air content, temperature, and unit weight; cast and transport concrete cylinders for compressive strength testing.
- Conduct asphalt sampling, coring, and density testing (including nuclear gauge testing).
- Observe and document foundation installations, reinforcing steel placement, and other field operations as assigned.
- Maintain detailed, accurate field reports, test data, and photo documentation.
- Communicate daily with project managers, engineers, and clients regarding test results, progress, and non-conformance issues.
- Follow all company and site-specific safety policies and maintain equipment in good working order.
- Execute tests in accordance with relevant standards and procedures to ensure quality results.
- Use appropriate protective tools to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Test stores and logs samples; retrieves cylinders from field projects; and dispose of tested samples.
- Site reconnaissance and locating bores in the field, log bores in the field, perform pavement coring operations, handle, and evaluate geophysical equipment and data, perform hand augers, and assist with drilling operations, rock, and soil classification.
- Prepare reports on a computer using Microsoft and other company relevant software, etc.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and contracts.
- Confidently communicate and respond to feedback.
- Interact positively and professionally with other employees, as well as contractors, clients, industry, professionals, and residents/business owners.
- Apply professional judgment to efficiently perform the inspection responsibilities with the least possible interruption to the work progress.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in all his/her work and documentation.
- Excellent organization and time management skills leading to timely documentation and submittals.
- High School Diploma
- Experienced with soils, masonry, concrete and asphalt testing for field operations.
- A valid driver's license and ability to maintain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR)
-must be insurable by our auto policy (MVR check will be done) - Certified with ACI, NDG, CTQP, and NICET in Soil, Concrete, and Asphalt, a plus or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire- we help you with the certifications.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication
- 2+ years in CMT technician/inspector experience
- Some college or college degree
- Familiarity with FDOT MAC System
- Structural Steel Inspection experience
- Ability to work in the field full-time
- Keyboarding/data entry
- Ability to work overnight, as dictated by the client's schedule
- Ability to work weekends, as dictated by the client's schedule
- Ability to travel throughout the state
- Ability to occasionally travel out of state
- Ability to physically traverse a job site with varying degrees of incline/decline
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand for up to 10 hours at a time
- Ability to alternate between sitting and standing depending on duties required
- Ability to bend and crouch
