Job Summary

The role manages engineering work for rail design projects with general supervision, develops contract scopes, coordinates project phases, and ensures schedules and production dates are met. It also engages with consultants, local agencies, and the Department’s planning organization to support rail and transit initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and perform engineering work for design projects with general supervision.
  • Coordinate phases of work between consultants and other disciplines (Right of Way, Design, Traffic Operations, Planning, etc.) to maintain schedules and project production dates.
  • Develop contract scope of services and coordinate activities related to initiation, advertisement, and execution of contracts.
  • Review and approve invoices; prepare, coordinate, and negotiate supplemental agreements as required.
  • Oversee production activities for rail projects such as Crossing Resurfacing, Rail Grants, and projects along the South Florida Rail Corridor.
  • Assist in coordinating projects with local agencies and interested parties, attending local and statewide meetings, and conducting field reviews.
  • Participate in developing business plan goals, objectives, and activities related to rail and transit development initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge Of
  • Multimodal project development.
  • Engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and the Department’s design manual, design standards, and FHWA directives.
  • Engineering design, construction, production and/or operations.
  • Production process for developing and delivering work program.
  • Professional Services and contractual services procedures.
Skills In
  • Contract management.
Ability To
  • Analyze and interpret engineering data.
  • Perform technical engineering inspections.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Communicate engineering information effectively.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four years of experience in transportation, planning, public administration, engineering, or logistics, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field to substitute for the required experience.
