Literacy Specialist, Alpha

Overview

Alpha School is seeking experts to execute an AI-enhanced reading program that reshapes early literacy instruction. You will lead focused, high-impact workshops instead of conventional hour-long sessions. Your work includes diagnosing learner needs, building original evidence-based lessons without templates, and contributing to adaptive systems that extend your expertise to hundreds of students. This position is designed for reading specialists who excel beyond rigid curriculum frameworks and are ready to advance scalable literacy solutions.

On-site positions in Chantilly (Washington, VA);
San Francisco, CA; or New York City, NY.

• Leading adaptive reading workshops that build core competencies in phonics, fluency, and comprehension
• Creating personalized motivational experiences that engage students and foster a lasting passion for reading
• Reviewing student performance data to iteratively improve instruction and extract meaningful insights
• Partnering with the technology team to assess and refine AI-powered literacy platforms

• Following pre-packaged curricula or published instructional sequences

• Bachelor s degree
• Master s degree or advanced certification in reading instruction (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years delivering small-group reading interventions to early elementary learners
• Capable of evaluating reading levels, organizing student groups, and creating differentiated instruction independently of pre-written materials
• Experienced with AI/adaptive learning platforms and able to respond to student interactions within those systems
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship

  San Francisco, CA; or New York City, NY

On-site position with weekly salary of $120,000. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one. Relocation assistance provided.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $60 USD/hour, which equates to $120,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly. See  for details.
