Primary Purpose

Provides career coaching, delivers workshops and networking opportunities, and collaborates with internal and external partners to enhance alumni career services. Ensures alumni have access to career resources, employer connections, and professional development programs that promote continued engagement with the university.

Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Establishes a plan of action with the alumni working towards preparing for a successful career.
  • Provides one-to-one career advising to alumni through career goal setting, formal and informal career exploration, and offers appropriate career-related resources both on and off campus. Delivers ongoing support through the decision-making process.
  • Supports alumni in creating and developing their personal portfolio, cover letters, interviewing skills and other professional tools required to ultimately conduct a successful internship or job search.
  • Provides, administers, and evaluates various assessment tools to alumni to identify their career interests, preferred work environments, and how to make decisions about career choices.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Career Services Office and the Alumni Relations Office to integrate career programming into alumni engagement strategies.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key employers, alumni associations, and industry partners to expand career opportunities for alumni.
  • Assists with planning, promoting, and delivering workshops and seminars, and classroom outreach, on resume writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, business communication, employer expectations, networking and social media, and other career-related topics.
  • Contributes to the research of current trends and employers in all industries as it pertains to employment outlook and other areas that affect career decisions.
  • Assists in the organization, implementation, and coordination of department special events and programming.
  • Assists with compiling and maintaining data and assessment for surveys and reports.
  • Completes other projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Job Requirements / Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Knowledge
      • Psychology - Working knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; and learning and motivation.
      • Therapy and Counseling - Working knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for career counseling and guidance.
      • English Language - General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
      • Education and Training - Working knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
      • Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
