Overview
Position: OPS DENTAL ASSISTANT
- This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) in-office position. The employee works at various sites located throughout Broward County and may float to different practices. OPS positions do not offer paid time off; health benefits are offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

The Dental Assistant provides direct and indirect chairside assistance to the clinical dentist in the care of patients and performs expanded duty dental assisting functions as provided by the Dental Practice Act of Florida. General and daily supervision is provided by the Lead Dentist in charge of the clinic, and indirectly by the Dental Director and administrative staff. The Dental Assistant may also perform clerical duties at the front desk.
This is a floater position and requires the ability to float to different practices. The following duties are noted, and other duties may be assigned:
- Provide instruction in proper oral hygiene skills, including tooth brushing and flossing; instruct patients in proper diet habits and explain the relationship of nutrition to dental caries. Distribute and explain patient education materials. Instruct expectant mothers of clinic patients.
- Input patient treatment data into the Health Department patient service HMS computer system and Eaglesoft.
- Participate in internal committees, attend required CHD meetings, foster a positive teamwork environment with emphasis on patient care. Complete Employee Activity Reports daily for weekly submission. Check and respond to emails daily.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal hours in the event of an emergency, including in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or other emergency duties.
- In-office position; willingness to physically report to the office to perform duties.
- Valid driver’s license and access to an automobile to be used for work; willingness to drive to multiple sites as required.
- Expanded duty certificate.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a dental practice.
- Experience with dental billing, scheduling, and appointment control.
- Experience with dental clinic terminology and dental procedures.
