Seasonal Laborer - Traffic Safety

Overview

The City of Fort Dodge Public Works department is currently seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team as a Seasonal Laborer in the Traffic Safety Department for the summer. This position is crucial for maintaining, repairing, constructing, and cleaning various aspects of the city’s infrastructure, with a primary focus on the painting of road markings. Working from 4 am to noon offers the unique benefit of avoiding the hottest part of the day, making it a more comfortable work environment while also providing the afternoon free for personal time, further education, or other employment.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is committed to contributing to the safety and efficiency of our city’s transportation network.

• Assist in the painting and maintenance of road markings and traffic safety signals to ensure they are visible and adhere to safety standards.
• Perform manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, shoveling, sweeping, and cleaning of roads and sidewalks.
• Assist in the setup and removal of traffic control devices and signs.
• Work on various maintenance and repair projects related to city infrastructure as needed.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and protocols.
• Operate small hand tools and equipment related to maintenance and repair tasks.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• No prior experience required, but experience in manual labor or construction is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
