Job Description
The Department of Biomedical Sciences contains over 25 faculty with strong international reputations and a track record of extramural support. Faculty research interests are focused in cellular, molecular and integrative biology, reproductive biology, and neurobiology with emphasis on neuronal differentiation, degeneration and regeneration, ion channels, synaptic mechanisms, neuronal circuitry, sensory biology, artificial neural networks, and neuroendocrinology. The department is highly interactive and offers postdoctoral fellows a friendly but rigorous learning environment.
Program faculty members are housed in modern research buildings with state-of-the-art equipment. All of the training faculty members have laboratories that are within relatively close proximity. University facilities that support research efforts include electron microscopes, flow cytometer and fluorescent activated cell sorter, confocal microscopes, DNA, RNA and protein sequencing and syntheses labs, a mass spectrometer lab, and facilities for genomics, preoteomics, and transgenic animal research.

Job Duties
- Conducting Primary Research:
Executing independent or directed research projects, including designing experiments, acquiring accurate data, and analyzing results. - Scientific Dissemination:
Writing and publishing original research articles in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at national or international conferences. - Grant and Proposal Writing:
Contributing to the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and fellowships to secure future research funding. - Specific duties will be defined at the time of hire by the supervising faculty member.
Pre-employment criminal background check (required for new hires). This position reports to a faculty member within the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Day-to-day supervision and expectations are defined by the hiring laboratory. Position may include supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
Minimal QualificationsApplicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M.) and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Applications will be accepted from graduate students completing their doctoral degree requirements, but the degree must be completed before applicants can begin their postdoctoral appointment.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior research experience in a relevant biological discipline.
- Experience with laboratory, field, or computational research methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
- Experience with data analysis, scientific writing, or specialized research techniques relevant to the hiring lab.
