Summary

The Maintenance Helper, Fleet cleans and maintains building appearance and delivers pool cars and city vehicles.

This hourly position allows up to 29 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain building appearance.
  • Operate snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways.
  • Perform custodial duties such as cleaning buildings, sweeping, scrubbing floors, and emptying trash.
  • Deliver city vehicles to outside vendors.
  • Inspect pool vehicles and perform minor maintenance such as tire repairs, checking fluids, and fueling.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise regular city employees.

Qualifications Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate and maintain vehicles and equipment such as snowplows and forklifts.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment fit‑for‑duty test.
  • Submit to pre‑employment drug test.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED; one to two years of related experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and citizens.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands

Regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Frequently climb or balance. Occasionally sit. Maintain lifting of up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds frequently.

Work Environment

Exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock; fumes or airborne particles; and typically loud noise levels.
