Position Overview

The PHY Characterization Engineer will be part of a cross‑functional team developing state‑of‑the‑art die‑to‑die PHY IP used broadly in APD’s custom silicon ASIC products. The engineer will test PHYs and develop methodologies that assess their performance. This role requires strong motivation, independence, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Fort Collins, CO.

Typical Duties
  • Develop a deep, detailed understanding of Broadcom’s die‑to‑die PHYs.
  • Collaborate with analog design, digital design, physical composition, and DFT to develop functional and characterization plans for PHY IPs.
  • Create characterization scripts and automate report generation.
  • Execute characterization plans.
  • Review and analyze results with cross‑functional teams.
Job Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent) and 5+ years of related experience; or a Master’s degree and 3+ years of related experience.
  • Programming experience in one of the following languages:
    Ruby, C, C++, Perl, or Python.
  • Experience with Linux and Bash scripting.
  • Familiarity with basic lab equipment: power supplies, oscilloscopes, cooling equipment, etc.
  • Experience with BIST test techniques.
  • Experience characterizing DDR interfaces.
  • Strong debugging skills.
Desired
  • Experience or coursework with RTL languages (System Verilog, Verilog, VHDL).
  • Understanding of VLSI IC I/O & control fundamentals and built‑in self‑test (BIST).
  • Experience analyzing data with Matlab.
  • Experience with plotting software such as Matlab or JMP.
  • Basic understanding of communications theory.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor.
Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $91,000 – $146,000. The role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and equity in accordance with the company’s plan documents and agreement.
