Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager
Fred Smith Company is currently searching for an experienced Superintendent for our Public Division. We are a Heavy Civil Construction Contractor working in the commercial site work, infrastructure, and asphalt markets in North Carolina.
The Superintendent is responsible for the efficient operations and effective coordination of all personnel, crews and equipment for his/her team.
Job Duties- Perform all duties within the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures manual.
- Create an atmosphere that encourages subordinates to improve their skills and maintain high morale.
- Ensure crews start work on time and work the hours for which they are paid.
- Assist and direct crews in safe equipment use, job performance, cost control, quality, productivity, communication, and housekeeping.
- Participate in periodic evaluation of all assigned personnel, discussing contributions, development, and possible pay adjustments.
- Supervise and direct the activities of assigned personnel, including proper operation, technique, use, and maintenance of equipment.
- Supervise and direct all project subcontractors to ensure compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and quality workmanship.
- Orient new personnel to company policies, safety, and job responsibilities.
- Develop cooperative relationships with management and seek their feedback and suggestions.
- Cooperate with Human Resources and Risk Management to ensure compliance with EEO and Safety responsibilities.
- Continuously evaluate cost, material yields, plans, schedules, personnel needs, training, safety, security, and quality control, reporting any issues to the General Superintendent.
- Monitor and adjust costs and yields within the area of responsibility.
- Schedule material purchase and coordinate delivery to optimize use of resources.
- Ensure all work complies with local laws, ordinances, and EPA regulations.
- Maintain good relationships with the public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to promote a positive company image.
- Assist supervisors with equipment inspections and maintenance requests.
- Review daily reports for correctness and transmit them to the Project Manager.
- Assist the General Superintendent with scheduling specialty crews, subcontractors, and progress schedules.
- Maintain a daily log of important conversations and events for future reference.
- General knowledge of drainage, grading, stone base, asphalt, concrete curb and gutter, construction drawings, and precision measuring instruments.
- Minimum of 5 years of prior experience managing Heavy Civil Construction Projects.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a positive driving history.
