Business Loan Officer‑Onsite Purpose
Responsible for sourcing, developing, and closing business loans. Represents the credit union in the local community and participates in promoting all products and services and the benefits of FBFCU membership.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Leads and executes business development initiatives by identifying and pursuing new sales opportunities to expand our business/commercial lending portfolio. The primary focus is our 7‑county footprint and secondarily extends to other areas within North Carolina.
- Assists borrowers in completing business loan applications. Gathers necessary loan documents, processes preliminary information, analyzes information and formulates recommendations, collects upfront fees, and submits loan packages to underwriters. Serves as a liaison during the entire borrowing process.
- Consults with current members and prospects on a variety of business loans offerings. Discusses loan alternatives, credit criteria, pricing and structure options, and borrowing requirements.
- Follows up on incomplete applications to offer assistance, answer questions, and determine applicant’s intentions.
- Coordinates with LUCRO underwriters and processors and keeps SVP Credit Administration and the Business Loan Committee (BLC) apprised of the status of every deal.
- Continually follows up with all parties to ensure timely loan closings and resolve any problems while ensuring compliance requirements.
- Cross sells other types of loans including HELOCs, residential real estate loans and consumer loans.
- Conducts property inspections as assigned.
- Assists in completing annual reviews. Gathers all standard documentation and proactively follows up with borrowers to obtain additional information or address any problems.
- Maintains positive working relationships with fellow team members. Presents to frontline staff to ensure they understand pertinent information about business lending and enlists their support to develop new leads. Supports needs outside of business lending, as necessary.
- Monitors business loan portfolio for compliance purposes and serves as key contact for borrowers. At direction of SVP Credit Administration, assists in resolving past due payments, delinquencies, and collection matters.
- Keeps abreast of market conditions and competitors’ products and pricing. Recommends changes to BLC.
- Supports the credit union’s strong relationship building culture through on‑going member contact, quality member service, and superior product knowledge.
- Establishes and maintains a network of local business contacts. Regularly attend business networking events.
- Complies with all department and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Provides assistance to auditors and examiners, as necessary.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
- The ability to make sound decisions. This may include making on‑the‑spot decisions regarding transactions; weighing satisfaction issues with the Credit Union’s exposure to loss or fraud and the ability to think through and rationalize decisions.
- Must comply with the Federal Bank Secrecy Act, Anti‑Money Laundering & Customer Identification Policy (BSA), the OFAC Policy and the Identity Theft Policy.

Education and Training- High School education or GED.
- Must be able to meet the qualifications necessary to be registered with the NMLS under the provisions set forth by the S.A.F.E. Act.
- On an annual basis, it is required to complete mandatory Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC and Red Flag Identity Theft training.
- 5–8 years business/commercial lending or related experience.
- Sales experience and familiarization with banking products is preferred.
