Camp Mendocino

is a residential summer camp located in Northern California, four hours north of San Francisco and spread over 2,000 acres. We provide transportation between San Francisco and Camp at the start and end of the summer. All Camp employees are expected to live, sleep and work  a program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), we are dedicated to providing children and teens with safe, fun places to learn and grow, with professional staff to offer support and guidance, serving as caring mentors and role models.

Position Purpose

The Arts & Crafts Specialist provides fun, engaging, and age appropriate activities for campers, introducing them to different mediums of art while fostering a love for it. This position runs creative art programming for campers ages 8-17 in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, crafts, recycled art, and natural art.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate high level, engaging, creative arts programing for all genders and age groups
  • Introduce a wide variety of art concepts to campers and staff
  • Utilize resources effectively for projects – this includes using recycled materials and natural elements when possible
  • Use arts programming to engage campers in other activities throughout camp including environmental education, character development, and community service
  • Plan and implement lesson plans in coordination with Program Managers
  • Engage youth in challenging and fun activities
  • Foster character development consistent with BGCSF philosophy
  • Participate and organize in all camp activities, such as: talent shows, camp fires, and flagpole
  • When not running programming, engage with assigned village, assuming all responsibilities of a Counselor, including overnight supervision of youth in cabins
  • Must engage campers with a positive attitude, including participating in cheers, talent shows, and overnights
  • Other duties as specified by direct supervisor

Required Skills
  • Experience providing youth instruction in a multitude of art disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers and campers
  • Ability to handle difficult or stressful situations in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Desire to work outdoors 24/7
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with youth in an overnight camp setting
  • Experience working with youth from disadvantaged circumstances
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain for at least 3 miles
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours (with breaks)
  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30° to 100°
Schedule
  • Temporary/Seasonal Summer position.
  • Applicants should be available June 12 - August 6, 2026 to work & live on-site at our Camp location in Northern California (Mendocino County).
  • Staff members work 40-56 hours/week depending on position with two days off per week. Days off vary per session.
Lodging
  • Lodging is provided for all staff on site. Arts & Crafts specialists will sleep on bunk beds in open-air cabins while supervising youth overnight.
