Defense Engineering Inc. (DEi) team is seeking a Network Management Systems (NMS) Engineer to support our long-term contract located at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) at Fort Belvoir, VA
The I3TS program provides enterprise-wide IT support to enable DTRA’s Information Management & Technology Directorate (ITD) to consolidate, modernize, and continuously innovate the delivery of IT services and mission capabilities to DTRA’s internal and external mission partners operating in CONUS and OCONUS locations.

Job Description
The candidate will be a skilled and detail-oriented NMS Engineer with experience using Solar Winds to manage and maintain a network and systems monitoring environment and work under the supervision of a Senior NMS Engineer.
In this role, the candidate will be responsible for updating, configuring, optimizing, STIG compliance, and supporting DTRA’s Solar Winds NMS platform to ensure effective monitoring of the IT infrastructure, enabling proactive issue detection, and resolution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure and maintain Solar Winds modules (e.g., NPM, SAM, NTA, NCM).
- Monitor the performance, availability, and overall health of network devices, servers, applications, and databases.
- Develop and maintain custom dashboards, alerts, and reports to support IT operations and business needs.
- Integrate Solar Winds with other tools and platforms as needed (e.g., Service Now).
- Analyze data rends to identify potential issues and recommend improvements.
- Perform routine software updates, patches, and security configurations within the Solar Winds environment.
- Troubleshoot Solar Winds-related issues and provide Tier 2/3 support.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (network, systems, security, Dev Ops) to ensure accurate monitoring coverage.
- Participate in on-call support rotation, as needed.
- Works fluidly across the major infrastructure elements of networking, security, storage, virtualization, and servers to deliver new availability, capacity, services, and safeguards.
Required Qualifications
The applicant will:
- Have a Bachelors degree with 4+ years of prior relevant experience. Specific experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Possess active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of consideration.
- Must have a current active Security+ certification or equivalent.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Solar Winds and r other NMS administration.
- Strong understanding of network and systems infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, Windows/Linux servers, virtualization).
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Solar Winds Orion and SQL database structure.
- Solar Winds Certified Professional (SCP) certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Experience in enterprise or multi-tenant environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and change management processes.
- Proficient in configuring aintaining Solar Winds modules such as NPM, SAM, and NCM.
- Experience with SNMP, WMI, ICMP, and other monitoring protocols.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Power Shell, Python) for automation tasks.
