POSITION TITLE:
Fireman (Maintenance)- 2
REPORTS TO:
Manager of Buildings and Grounds
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Experience or Training
Possess the applied skills necessary to operate either a high- or a low-pressure boiler: an ability to repair and maintain all associated equipment thereto; holder of a valid Stationary Engineer's License.
Special Requirements of the Position
Evidence of successful work experience and of a strong attendance record.
A practical knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance methods and practices as they apply to school facilities.
Possess skills to work in boiler rooms and related areas; ability to work at heights atop boilers, stacks, roofs, and ladders; work any shift assignment and overtime on shift or weekends during emergencies and heating season.
Additional Certificates Preferred
Possess a Technician Type Universal Refrigerant Handlers License.
Possess an Asbestos Workers License.
PRINCIPLE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK:
Types of Activities Performed Frequently
Fire and maintain boilers; operate and maintain ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
Types of Activities Performed Occasionally
General - As directed.
Basic Functions
Operate, maintain, and repair heating, cooling, and ventilating systems within the school plant.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Replace and/or adjust V-belts in pulley-driven machinery.
Repair, replace, and repack all types of valves and traps.
Lubricate and repair air handling units, electrical motors, pumps, and related equipment.
Repair and replace plant piping.
Make required repairs and adjustments to thermostats; hot water converter units, and warm air supply units.
Replace fuses, reset circuit breakers and make minor electrical repairs.
Backwash pool filters, maintain the proper chemical balance of pool water and make the necessary tests to determine bacteria and fungi count of pool water.
Take appropriate boiler water tests and determine, if needed, proper chemical treatment.
Repair, service or replace refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in accordance with national, state, and local codes.
Assume work responsibilities independently and without assistance.
Possess an applied knowledge of firing boilers
Gain appropriate knowledge to fulfill future leadership roles.
Perform duties and assignments as directed by the Building Manager or his designee.
