Engineer – Electric Motor Repair (FOREST PARK, GA)

JOB SUMMARY

As a Quality Control Inspector at the Georgia Power Repair Shop, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections on various types of electrical equipment, including motors, transmission equipment, and distribution equipment that have been repaired or reconditioned. Your attention to detail will be crucial in maintaining the highest quality standards and ensuring the reliability and safety of the equipment. You will also contribute to process improvements, procedure revisions, and ensure that all nuclear-related repairs and processes meet the stringent requirements as outlined by nuclear regulations.

REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality Control inspections within a repair shop environment or a related industry required.
  • Engineering Technology, Engineering degree, or related experience preferred.
  • NDE/NDT PT and/or VT preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, and

Skills:
  • Experience in technical roles preferred
  • Maintenance and equipment repair experience desired
  • Ability to write and edit Motor Repair Procedures, Technical Evaluations, Special Repair Procedures, and Non-Conformance Reports.
  • Provide feedback and input into the development and refinement of process improvements to enhance the quality of repairs.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to read and measure precision measurement equipment:
    Micrometers, Calipers, Dial Indicators, Rulers and Tape Measures.
  • Knowledge for testing methods for dedication testing: FTIR, Hardness, Chemical Analysis, XFR, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Borescopes, Light Meters, Surface Profile meters, coating thickness meter, Faro laser tracker, faro arm, and X-Ray Florence metal analyzers.
  • Computer Skills Word, Excel, Maximo, Oracle, and Faro CAM 2 software.
  • NRC 10 CFR 50, Appendix B and 10 CFR 21 knowledge a plus
  • Development and maintenance of area procedures
  • Effective verbal and writing skills
  • Strong team player that builds credibility and trust quickly
  • Ability to work with people to achieve organizational objectives
  • Must be able to support 24/7 operation including holidays, nights, and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to make decisions and demonstrate short/long-term strategic vision
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform detailed Quality Control inspections on electrical motors, transmission, and distribution equipment that have been repaired or reconditioned.
  • Evaluate the functionality and safety of equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards as well as company specifications.
  • Generate comprehensive written reports on inspection results, including any defects or nonconformities, and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure all Class 1E nuclear repairs, documentation, materials, and services strictly adhere to the nuclear regulatory commitments specified in 10 CFR 50 Appendix

    B.
  • Maintain measurement and test equipment (MT&E) program in compliance with applicable procedures.
  • Order materials for jobs; this includes generating purchase request
  • Write and approve technical procedures, engineering evaluations, and ensure all procedures meet the needs of QA program
  • Provide technical evaluation of the nonconformance reports for the nuclear QA program and technical evaluations as part of the internal Corrective Action Program
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and new technologies in quality control inspection.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues about best practices in quality control and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in regular training sessions to maintain and enhance skills required for the position.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures
  • Attend and participate in the weekly planning meeting
  • Train employees on how to operate new equipment and ensure they have the technical training to complete their jobs
