To perform professional library functions within the youth services program of the Library; to develop the youth services collection; to provide assistance, education and information to patrons on Library use and services; and to perform a variety of duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
This position is represented by AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees).
Youth Services Librarian for ages 0-12Typical duties of this position include:
- community outreach & engagement;
- grant writing and management;
- budget or project management;
- collection development;
- knowledge of library cataloging and classification theory;
- providing ready reference and/or reader’s advisory;
- small group instruction (15+ students);
- public speaking (40+ people);
- providing instruction and/or troubleshooting for patrons in relation to computer hardware, software, or portable devices (including Overdrive support);
- social media content creation and /or some familiarity with graphic design principles
Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university, or ability to obtain within six months of date of hire required.
ExperienceTwo years of experience working in a public library setting OR 2 years of paid experience working directly with children ages 0‑12 preferably in a government setting (parks department, school district, DHS, Head Start, etc).
Preferred Qualifications- Bilingual in English/Spanish Language strongly preferred.
- Paid experience working with children ages 0‑12 and their families preferred.
- Paid experience as a Librarian in a public library setting preferred.
