Introduction
The Division of State Patrol's Bureau of Field Operations is recruiting to fill a State Patrol Captain in the Northeast Region. The position is headquartered at the Fond du Lac Post, 851 S. Rolling Meadows Drive, Fond du Lac, WI. It is anticipated that early 2026 the position’s headquarter will be permanently relocating to Wrightstown, WI. Residency for this position is 60 miles from Fond du Lac Post or Wrightstown Post.

Position SummaryThe Northeast Region Commander (State Patrol Captain) administers a Region management team consisting of one Deputy Region Commander (State Patrol Lieutenant) and 6‑14 first line supervisors (State Patrol Sergeants and Law Enforcement Dispatcher Supervisors). Region personnel size ranges from 47 to 180 employees assigned geographically over 6 to 20 counties.
Responsibilities include administration of planning, budgeting, organizing, controlling, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating goals and objectives for all programs in one Region. The position directs development and implementation of all Region operational policies and procedures that affect the efficiency and effectiveness of programs serving the motoring public under the general direction of the Director of the Bureau of Field Operations, with administrative review through conferences and reports.
SalaryInformation
This position is in schedule‑range (81‑02) with an annual salary of $111,092 plus excellent benefits. A 2‑year career executive trial period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications- Must be a current sworn law enforcement officer in the State of Wisconsin (or eligible for immediate re‑certification).
- Must have graduated from the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy and are not currently serving a probation for State Patrol Trooper or Inspector.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience formally supervising supervisors of law enforcement personnel. Formal supervisor experience includes directly supervising law enforcement supervisors in activities such as organizing/planning work assignments, motivating employees to accomplish goals, evaluating performance and/or progress, ensuring deadlines are met, facilitating leadership development, managing/coordinating schedules, etc.
- In addition to the minimum requirements, a qualified candidate will have experience leading law enforcement personnel during significant emergencies (such as natural disasters, made disasters, civil disturbances, etc.) and experience managing law enforcement services and programs.
